Thomas (Tom) McConville was born on 26th April 1905. As a boy he attended St Vincent's school which used to be in Hamon Road, Altrincham, the site now occupied by the Tesco supermarket. On 29th July 1933 he married Gertrude (Gertie) Hollingworth, a local girl, and they set up home in Timperley. He worked as a shipping clerk at Castleton Steam Packing Company and then as a machine driller at George Richards Ltd., both in Broadheath. During the Second World War he was a member of the ARP. Gertie worked at Leigh's Laundry, Altrincham until the birth of their son in 1937. Tom died on 12th November 1979 and was buried in Brooklands Cemetery, Sale.
