Clarence (Clarrie) was born in Altrincham on 11th September 1900. He was employed as a pattern maker in the foundry of George Richards & Co Ltd in Broadheath. In June 1927 he married Tamar Ellen Chapman who was born on 17th October 1901 in Askrigg, Wensleydale, North Yorkshire. Their only child, Jean, was born in 1927, and they lived all their married life on the Oldfield Brow Estate. Both Clarrie and Tamar were great bowls enthusiasts and were members of the Fernlea Bowing Club which used to be on Dunham Road. Following the closure of the club in 1950, Fernlea re-opened as the North Cestrian Grammar School in 1951. Tamar died in 1971 and Clarrie in 1974.
